On Saturday, August 4, 2012, Karien Sewell, uses a pair of scissors to trim the grass surrounding the stone of her son Shawn’s grave in the Forest Hills Cemetery in the St. Elmo community of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
On Saturday, August 4, 2012, Karien Sewell wipes sweat from her brow as she trims grass near her son’s grave and her mother’s grave in the Forest Hills Cemetery in the St. Elmo community of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Sewell said she tries to come every other weekend, and that she looks forward to spending time at the graves, talking to the late members of her family.
On Saturday, August 4, 2012, Karien Sewell points to the other side of the fence where she would come to the Forest Hills Cemetery in the St. Elmo community of Chattanooga, Tennessee, after operating hours to sit and be near her son’s grave. In 2005, Sewell’s son, Shawn, was murdered by his girlfriend, but on the day the woman was released from serving her prison sentence, Sewell said she was there to tell the young woman she was forgiven.
